Pushan Mudra

Named for the sun god Pushan (the god of nourishment), this mudra encompasses the stages of nourishment. One hand symbolizes acceptance and receiving while the other hand represents giving, and letting go. The full cycle that is needed for fulfillment. Always coming back to the balance in nature, in self and in life.

Now we practice:

• Find a comfortable seat

• Sit up tall, extending your spine and lifting through the top of your head

• Rest your hands on your knees – starting with palms facing up

• On the Right hand slowly bend the first and middle finger and join with the tip of the thumb while leaving the ring and pinky finger extended. Allow the back of the hand to rest on the knee

• On the Left hand slowly start to bend the middle and ring finger until they can join with the thumb as well. Leaving the pinky and first finger extended, back of hand resting on the left knee

• Start focusing on your breath

• Inhale feeling the nourishing energy of the universe come through the right hand and washing over your body

• Hold the breath, feeling the fullness you have created

• Exhale, letting anything you no longer need, any excess flow back out into the ether through the left hand.

• Continue this cycle for about 5 minutes at a time, up to 4 times a day for best results in getting you the nourishment you need

If you’d like to add an affirmation, try the below or make up your own.

“Breathing in, I am grateful for all that nourishes me; mind, body and soul. Breathing out, I release everything that no longer serves me”

I hope this helps with the growth of your intentions, practice, and energy.
