Ujjayi Breath

Also known as "victorious breath," this breathing practice is incredibly beneficial. It is a warming and energizing breath, so not recommended right before bedtime.

Ujjayi is a very helpful addition to your yoga practice. It gives you a distraction / alternate focus so that you can stay in difficult poses longer. It also serves as a reminder to breathe while you are holding a shape.

Off the mat, it can help relieve sinus pressure, reduce phlegm, and strengthen the nervous and digestive systems.

Now we Practice:

  • Settle into a sitting, kneeling or reclined position

  • Make sure your spine is as straight as possible

  • Inhale and exhale through your nose

  • Constrict your throat slightly as you feel the breath flow in and out

  • If you sound like Darth Vader you are doing it correctly!

  • Continue for anywhere from 3-10 minutes

  • When you are finished slowly return to a natural breath and take a few minutes to absorb the energy the breath can help create before returning to your day.

Please reach out with any questions and remember to breathe!

"Breathing in, I calm body and mind. Breathing out, I smile. Dwelling in the present moment I know this is the only moment." - Thich Nhat Hahn
